Hole in the Wall

Erik is burning a huge pile in our back pasture. There is a thin layer of fresh snow on the ground, and the pile is slowly smoldering in the wet earth. We are getting excited for spring, but every time we think it is just around the corner, more snow falls. Today it has melted quickly and we are glad.

Our girls are such troopers. Elisa is such a handful, but precocious, smart, and, I think, has a sweet heart at the core of it all. Last night when I kissed her goodnight, she very pertly told me, "Mommy have kiss already. Just hug." This morning as I changed her sheets and shook out the comforter, she said, "Mommy makes the wind!" In this photo she is feeding her pink elephant to little Sadie, who is giggling away. (Thanks for the elephant, Olive!)

This week, Erik and I came down with strep throat at the same time. We padded pathetically around the house for four days before heading to the doctor for a quick diagnosis and shots of penicillin in our hips. Ouch! Thankfully, the girls are fine so far. On Tuesday night, poor feverish Erik awoke to take some Tylenol and fainted on the bathroom floor. I responded to the loud crash and found my husband (6 feet, 5 inches of him) crumpled on the floor, moaning. A little scary. Even scarier? Check out the picture of the hole his head made in the wall upon impact. Yikes! Pretty funny. My big strong man took a big tumble!

That is our week! We are looking forward to feeling better and maybe being a little more active over the next week - maybe even starting our preschool co-op! Thank God for antibiotics that turn illnesses into mere nuisances. What a blessing.

Everyday Life (Turned Sideways)

Elisa getting ready to head out for dinner. Isn't she a little lady? Sorry, I can't figure out how to turn the pictures!

Learning to cut and paint! What fun!
Laughing at her big sister!
Almost sitting up by herself.
This is Elisa, helping Daddy caulk the shower on Saturday morning. She loves to be with Daddy and gets so excited for Saturday morning trips to the hardware store and ride in his LandCruiser!

This is the first time in our three years of marriage that Erik and I have had access to the Internet at home. I confess it has been fun to catch up on the lives of our friends in this easy way; I love seeing pictures of Baby Elliot, Sydney, Gracie, Kai and especially my little nephew Ephraim. We hope you enjoy our little girls, too!

Thankfulness

A few days ago, I pulled a patient's billing statement out of an envelope (I have been depositing my dad's payments since my mom moved in February) and a photocopied sheet fell out with the check and statement. I gasped when I saw my dad's messy scrawl - a scribbled note entitling the patient to 1/2 off his bill. I stared at it for a moment, and then I wept. Because I miss him so much. Because that little note, unknowingly left for me to find, was so indicative of my generous daddy. Because even though I ache to see him again, I am so thankful for who he was and who he remains in the memories of all of us who knew and loved him. He was giving, selfless, and kind. I could not have had a better dad. And that photocopied note sent in a benign payment envelope reminded me poignantly of his character.

Our friends Craig and Valerie, in Colorado, delivered a little boy on April 10. He is 10 weeks early and has a serious heart defect. He's on a ventilator, and they can touch him only at certain prescribed times. We have been praying for this little guy for weeks, and we are so glad he is thriving and growing even with so many strikes against him. His parents are full of faith and hope as they wait. You can see little Ethan up there... so tiny! As I remember his family, I am amazed at my own healthy daughters. Every time I hold my baby girls, I am reminded of what miracles their lives are... the way they are knit together perfectly, the way their bodies are whole, the way God designed each of them intricately and beautifully. I am thankful for them, too.

Amy and Forrest (my sis and brother-in-law) had their son on April 4, and Ephraim Alvis is another reason to praise God. We are thankful for his life! See his photo above? He is so cute - weighed in at 6 lb, 12 oz and with lots of hair!

I am learning that even pain points us to all the reasons we have to thank God. His mercy and goodness are following us all the days of our lives.

A Few Pictures of Us

See this picture? This is Sadie, dressed identically to a photo of Elisa in the background. They look so much alike!

And, yes, those are moose in our backyard! Elisa could hardly eat dinner; she was so enthralled with gazing at them!

Here a few photos.... Easter Sunday in frilly dresses, freezing cold at the Pole Pedal Paddle race where Erik and his team placed 4th in the Men's Class! We had fun watching him ski into the change zone and cheering him on in the windy, 20-degree April weather.

A Day in the Life

Welcome to the Wachob house... a place of wonder, excitement, and fun! Truly, though our life is simple, and filled with the mundane routine of diaper changing, laundry, naptime stories, and two year-old tantrums, there is no better place to be! Elisa is a constant source of joy and laughter, and I am so thankful for her. Today she fought naptime. I had promised popcorn for a snack and she could not rest until she was assured I had made it and it was waiting in a bowl on the kitchen table. Big tears. She is sweet and helpful and amazes me with the way her little mind processes life. Sadie is pure sweetness. I love watching these two grow. And though I won't promise to blog often - I am finally caving to the pressure and providing a place for others to meet my wonderful growing family.
